Get rid of melting foundation, runny eyeliner in easy ways

Melting foundation, runny eyeliner and sticky lipstick, these are some of the painful make-up evils that women suffer in this humid weather but some of the quick and simple ways can make your life easy. Experts suggest how.

Make up experts Pooja Goel and Kopal Jain shared a few insights on how your make-up can last long even in humid weather

* If you have patchy skin, only then apply a make-up primer to your face, as it’s good in this temperature. The primer will flatten out the surface of your skin and help your make-up stay on. But those with clear skin need not apply a primer.

* One can apply a light coat of an oil-free tinted moisturiser, instead of a liquid or creamy foundation, as these are prone to melting in humid weather. Stay away from heavy foundation. A lightweight finishing powder is ideal for touch-ups.

* If you have any blemishes or dark circles that you want to cover, use an oil-free concealer, because oil causes the concealer to look greasy in humidity. Always opt for oil-free make-up products.

With the help of a large brush, lightly dust your face with loose powder. This will absorb all the excess oil and moisture and keep your face from shining.

* If you want to ensure that your eye shadow doesn’t crease, you can apply an eyelid primer to your eyelids before you put on eye shadow. Buy powder eye shadows, as they generally last longer than cream eye shadows. The key is to use a light colour and apply it thinly.

* Opt for liquid eyeliners, as they are more likely to stay put and resist smearing than wax-based pencil eyeliners.

* Use water-proof mascara to your eyelashes. Since it is resistant to water, it will stay on longer and not drip.

* Since lip gloss tends to fade easily, moisturise your lips with a lip balm and apply lipstick. As an alternative, opt for a long lasting sheer gloss. No frost or shimmer on the lips.

Jab Harry Met Sejal promotions: Anushka Sharma gives a new twist to ripped denim style, but it’s not really appealing

For the promotions of her upcoming film Jab Harry Met Sejal, Anushka Sharma is pulling out all stops to look her best. For the most part, she has managed to leave a mark on fashionistas. So when we came across a photo of the beauty on her Instagram in a pair of extremely distressed denims, we were a little disappointed.

Celebrity stylist Allia Al Rufai, who came up with this look and styled the weird jeans from Asos with a simple striped shirt from Urban Outfitters could have definitely done better than this. Even those gorgeous Givenchy heels couldn’t save her look from being a complete drab.

Anushka Sharma, Jab Harry Met SejalNo points at all for this one but we soon spotted her in two other promotional looks and it seemed like she was trying to redeem herself for the erstwhile epic fashion failure.

Let’s start with her semi-formal wear’, which is the epitome of stylish and comfy. The matching grey separates from Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna with the white tank top looked amazing on her.

Jimmy Choo’s strappy stilettos, which often cost more than $1,000, reached cult status with the likes of the late Princess Diana and Hollywood actor Sarah Jessica Parker favouring it. Highway On My Cape

A model seated on the steps of the display area at Delhi’s Lodhi Hotel, dressed in a voluminous red gown with the ‘Make in India’ lion motif embossed all over, set the tone for designer Manav Gangwani’s show ‘India @70’ on the second day of India Couture Week. “This is the 70th year of India’s Independence and my show is bringing together all that India is,” said Gangwani.

Staying true to the theme, Gangwani showcased a mammoth 70-ensemble collection on a 400-metre-long ramp that ran alongside a pool, and presented a mix of gowns, dresses, saris and anarkalis. We saw a heavy usage of a variety of motifs that included a Kathakali dancer’s face as well as that of Indian deities such as Durga, Krishna, Ganpati and Saraswati. Indian dance forms like Bharatanatyam and Kathak also marked their presence on the outfits.

The façade of Jama Masjid, too, made its way to the back of a cape. “I started down south and picked Kathakali from there, took Jamavar from Kashmir and had a stopover in Rajasthan where I narrowed down on the bandhani. To represent Delhi, we had the Mughal series. I have included chikankari, dabka work and gota patti there,” said Gangwani. The highlight of the show were tassels and fringes that Gangwani used in every way possible — from sari borders to embellished shoulders so as to enhance the silhouettes of the dress.

The showstopper of the evening, actor Disha Patani, wore a black fit-and-flare skirt which had elephants, horses, camels and lions intricately embroidered all over it and paired it with a fringed crop top. Rich silks, textured brocade and velvet dominated the collection in colours of white, hues of green, black and royal purple with traditional pinks, warm red and orange. Gangwani threw in a little bit of everything into the mix, much like his muse for the show: India.

Beyond haute couture, Sabyasachi launches jewellery collection, and it’s spellbinding

When it comes to opulence in the Indian fashion industry, there is no acing Sabyasachi Mukherjee. With his sheer love for traditional Indian designs, the designer has always tried to imbibe its rich heritage in all his collection. But that doesn’t mean his art is restricted to just ethnic fashion. When he launched the Firdaus collection in collaboration with famous French designer Christian Louboutin, we were stunned by the fusion between the two styles. Now, moving beyond garments, the celebrated designer from Kolkata launched his first-ever jewellery collection and it’s jaw-droppingly beautiful.

Like his earlier Spring Couture ’17 collection, his new Autumn-Winter 2017 Couture & Jewelery Collection too was launched on Instagram. And since its launch over the weekend, people have not been able to stop double tapping it. We bet you won’t be able to either. The ‘worst’ part, we can’t decide which is better — the magnificence of his crafted jewellery, or finesse of his haute couture ensembles.

What a period, what women! Frida Kahlo, Amrita Sher-Gil, Édith Piaf, Devika Rani. I cannot stray too far away from what they represented aesthetically,” writes the designer, introducing his collection.

Use roses to hydrate skin, treat acne and de-stress

Roses have a lot of uses apart from its de-stressing fragrance. From being an ace hydrator to being a healer, experts have rated the rose and its petals high for their uses.

Amit Sarda, Managing Director at Soulflower, and Sonia Mathur, Beauty Expert and Training head at Organic Harvest, have rolled out a list of uses of a rose:

* Hydration: Rose mixed with water helps hydrate, re-energise and moisturise the skin giving it a fresh look. It helps control excess oil and also maintains the skin’s pH balance. Containing a complex array of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, rose essential oil has excellent emollient properties for moisturising dry skin.

* Rosewater and lemon juice skin tonic: This tonic helps in clearing pimples and acne. Wash your face with water, followed by application of the tonic. Leave it on for 15 minutes before washing it with warm water. This is suitable for either combination skin or oily skin.

* Rosewater and almonds face pack: This is considered to be an ideal pack for dry skin. A paste can be prepared by using almonds, honey and rosewater together. This face-pack can be used for skin whitening.

* For regular use, dip the cotton ball in rosewater and clean the face. It acts as a natural toner and removes the dust and dirt settled onto the skin. This process can be repeated in the morning and night time. Rosewater can also be used in bath water. It helps in inducing a skin glow. The gentle aroma of rose removes the stress and refreshes the body.

* Eye care: Rosewater can alleviate the discomfort and relieve the stress after application. Rosewater brings shine and makes the eyes healthy. The anti-septic and anti-bacterial properties save the eyes from pollution, dust, redness and harm caused by chemicals in make-up products that one may be accustomed to using. It can also help in preventing dark circles when mixed with milk.

* Hair care: If used with shampoo on a regular basis, rosewater promotes moisturisation and conditioning of hair follicles.

Rosewater and jojoba oil blended together can be applied on the hair for 10 minutes before washing, as it effectively helps in repairing damaged hair caused by curling irons or blow driers.

To get rid of frizzy hair, rosewater and aloe vera can be blended together in equal proportions. Apply it over your scalp properly. Leave it on for 30 minutes and then wash off.

* Skin disease treatment: Rose has antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties, making it ideal to topically treat a host of ailments, including abrasions, burns and skin conditions. It has also been used to ease sore throats, fever and cough.

The anti-inflammatory properties help treat redness and inflammation. Rose oil can also help refine skin texture, controlling skin diseases such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis.

Rose water can also treat acne and can be added in tea to calm sore throats.

* De-stress: Inhaling the aroma of roses is said to be a powerful mood enhancer. It lowers the concentration of the stress hormone in the body, and helps in getting rid from feelings of anxiety, thereby promoting emotional well-being and relaxation.

* Local botox: Roses also help aging skin, keeping fine lines and wrinkles at bay. Use Rosehip seed oil (which is derived from small fruits found behind the rose flower) which contains high levels of Vitamin C and is rich in oils and proteins.
